About the Author
Norm Supancheck was born in 1942 and grew up in Long Beach, California. He’s spent his life devoted to serving God and helping people. An ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles since 1968, Father Norm’s current assignment is chaplain at Alemany High School in Mission Hill, California, a position he has held since 2002. Fr. Norm leads various marriage enrichment programs through the Catholic Church including Retrouvaille, Marriage Encounter, and Engaged Encounter. He works with many youth training programs and is actively involved in a variety of community service organizations. Fluent in Spanish, Fr. Norm celebrates Mass in Spanish up to five times a month on El Sembrador TV Station (ESNE), which is broadcast worldwide. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. John Seminary and a master’s degree in applied theology from Graduate Theological Union.

Marcus Brotherton is a journalist and professional writer known internationally for his books and literary collaborations with high-profile public figures, humanitarians, inspirational leaders, and military personnel. Wonderful book! This priest understands what it is like to be married...

This is a wonderful book. This is a love story that begins with a young couple in love who make the decision not to get married. Father Norm shares in his book how their love continued throughout the remainder of their lives even though the love they shared was expressed differently than they had first imagined.

If you ever wondered how a priest can understand the marital relationship, this book is for you. I highly recommend it.

This is such a great book! I've known Father Norm for a few years and went on some of his retreats as a young adult. He is such an amazing man of faith, and encouragement. This book really shows you what real love is all about. I recommend this book to anyone who is searching for true love, who is looking for a reminder of that love, or who wants to know what it looks like.

Get it, read it, and experience God's love in this story. Just amazing!

When Love Calls is a delightful story not only of about love and spirituality, but also a historical overview of Los Angeles, the impact of his ministry through the years and around the world. Whether you know Father Norm or not, it is an honest and well written memoir that captures the reader early on. Father Norm does not shy away from sensitive events that were happening in the world, within the Church and of course, within himself. The book is an easy read and age appropriate for adults as well as teens.

About the Author

Clark Strand is a spiritual writer and former Zen Buddhist monk who was previously senior editor of Tricycle magazine. He is the author of How to Believe in God: Whether You Believe in Religion or Not and Meditation Without Gurus as well as countless groundbreaking articles, including the first comprehensive feature article ever written in English on internet spirituality. Quite a good job

I am a Nichiren Buddhist, probably like so many others who bought the book. I was amazed at the author's profound understanding of the Nichiren Buddhism. For someone who doesn't practice this philosophy he did quite a good job of explaining it. The deeper elements were missing but then I had to keep reminding myself that since he doesn't practice it, there would be limits to his understanding. I think the one thing that stood out was when he mentioned that different people have said to him that Nichiren
Buddhist "isn't really a religion". I'm surprised that he didn't clarify that by "religion" most people mean a "God" outside of themselves; whereas this Buddhism believes that the "god" is within....that we are the Buddha. He did speak of personal responsibility for changing lives without mentioning begging some exterior being for help. He sort of danced around the issue perhaps not wanting to offend anyone that we don't believe that a "God" exists. However he did a mighty job and I was impressed. And in fact I DID learn new things.

Having read essays by Clark Strand previously, I was really looking forward to reading his book, "Waking the Buddha". It was even more engaging than I imagined and I read it in only one sitting. Mr. Strand's accounts of the fearlessness of the first three Soka Gakkai Presidents, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, Josei Toda and Daisaku Ikeda, deeply inspired me and re-ignited a fighting spirit in my own life.

The extaordinary SGI movement so eloquently explained!

What a great book...thank you Mr. Clark Strand! I was one of those baby boomers who delved into Buddhism after the social turbulence of the sixties...ricocheting from transcendental meditation to New Thought and eventually becoming a student of the Theravada. Always a seeker...but never completely satisfied. Meanwhile, the world became darker as human beings continue to wage war with one another and destroy nature. One day I was presented with a card that had Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo inscribed on it. It sat on my desk for a few years but I eventually researched, studied, and embraced this practice. It transformed my life!

This book explains the SGI movement and its vision for the world to experience lasting peace and security through humanity's embrace of the humanistic principles of Buddhism. Nichiren Buddhism is practical Buddhism. Progress in your practice leads to changes within you. Very good for the model building airbrushing techniques

Great book. I recommend it as a a complement to "The Basics of Scale Modeling (also from FineScale Modeler Books)" on the more detail topic airbrushing.
But please be aware that I only recommend this one or "Painting and Finishing" (from FineScale Modeler Books).
I've bought the two and 50% of the contents/projects are shared between both.

Very Basic

This is a good book, if it weren't for the directions that come with any airbrush kit. Nothing new, so save a few bucks and move on to the master modeler books with many more tips on how to use the airbrush more effectively...or simply use the trial and error method...

I just want to give this book a shoutout for being AMAZING. It is literally an encyclopedia for food styling. She has every food, what could happen to it, how to fix it, how to make it look best, and what products to use to fix it. This is extremely time saving for people like me who are new to food blogging and can reference everything before starting a recipe. Now, I haven't actually tried her different techniques but she's been in the business along time so I'm sure they are effective. Don't be scared off by the beginning which is very general info on styling in general. Get past that and you'll find the goods. Thanks, Delores!!

Highly recommended...

Use this book as a reference for food styling in our R&D lab. It has helped us improve our photography for Social media and print. Has an exhaustive list of tools, foods, preparation techniques, special effects (like condensation, steam, char, etc.), challenging situations, funny anecdotes from her past that can serve as bad examples or cautionary tales, propping, working with photographers, customers and for yourself, and many other topics. Like any reference, it has its perspective, and it's just one woman's eyes, but she's seen a lot so it's a valuable source of information. Be aware though that other perspectives are out there, and the market can and will shift so things that apply here as desirable may become dated but many of the tools and techniques will never change unless we start eating something entirely different...like pills or gels rather than real food. Like with any skill though, having the information doesn't guarantee success you've got to practice and apply your skills regularly or your results may decline.

As a teacher I try and bring in different professionals so that the kids can speak to the people in the profession and be exposed to all sides of completing the job. I found a food stylist who was willing to come in a speak to the kids and she mentioned the value of the book. She had in fact studied with the author. Based on her recommendation I purchased this book and have been very satisfied with the results. It is easy to read, jam packed fl

Sherry Parrish is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and began her career in education in 1979. Fantastic Resource

A solid number sense is essential to success in learning mathematics. Number Talks provides a very structured, scaffolded approach to teaching strategies that help students build number sense. It is filled with tons of leveled problems (NO teacher prep here) demonstrating exactly what kids should be able to do with each strategy at each grade level. This is incredibly helpful when trying to quickly analyze where a child's "holes" are in number sense development. I work with gifted elementary students who are often adept at hiding their mathematical weaknesses, but once I sniff them out (a third grader who is still counting on), I can quickly and easily use Number Talks for an impromptu "strategy meeting." (I also love the rich strategy comparison conversations that come once students know multiple strategies.)

Unforgettable math book.

This is an unforgettable math book. It's for the visual learner — especially for the learner who can't stand silly manipulatives. The book only uses 2 kinds of manipulatives and they are both abstract (even the child who can't stand counting using silly colorful teddy bears will love it) and simple to make (even for the mother who can't stand DIY projects). I used velcro and paper to make one of them and I recycled the frame from one of my son's weaving projects to make the other. I loved this book even though I hate DIY projects -- I swear. Most importantly, this book made my son and I love to do math together. Basically, there are two kinds of pedagogical books out there: the ones made for classrooms or afterschool/homeschool situations and the ones made for parents. This one is exceptional because it is made for all the situations listed above. Don't be intimidated by the classroom lessons in the DVD. I am giving it only 4 stars because the section for 4th and 5th grades were too repetitive and similar to the K-3rd grade sections but if all you need is a great book for K-3, then this is for you.

About the Author
Ernest Hemingway did more to influence the style of English prose than any other writer of his time. Publication of The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms immediately established him as one of the greatest literary lights of the 20th century. His classic novella The Old Man and the Sea won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953. Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. He died in 1961.

Some of Hem's very best stuff

I wasn't sure about a Hemingway play. Sure, Papa is one of my favorite fiction writers, but could he write for the stage as well as he wrote stories?

The Fifth Column proved to be every bit as good as Hemingway's best fiction. The deep characters and fascinating, realistic sequence of events are brilliantly written. The reader can picture the drama as if it was being acted out before him.

I've recommended this book to several people; some are hesitant to read it because the story's setting (the Spanish Civil War) doesn't interest them. But in Hemingway's fiction, the setting is not as important as how people and the things that happen to them are communicated on the page. He was a truly master writer, able to make characters and situations fascinating regardless of what the reader thought of the story's setting.

One suggestion: I read the four short stories before I read the play, and I strongly recommend that sequence. Reading the stories first enables you to see transition of the events from real life to Hemingway's mind, then to the page, and finally to the stage. Seeing this transition will give the reader an appreciation for Hemingway's ability to so brilliantly put into words his own observations and experiences.

If you are a Hemingway fan, or if you just like good fiction, it doesn't get much better than this.

This is one of Hemingway's lesser known works. A wondeful gift for those interested in his writings of the Spanish Civil War.
